Back to School Piercing Care, Some Unique Tips and Hacks

It's time to get back to school and the high times to take care of your precious piercings. You either go with a fully healed one or in initial healing and can't throw out caution.

So, for your beautiful piercing jewellery designs, we have some unique tips and hacks to help prevent unwanted infections and help you enjoy your jewellery experience to its fullest.

Some Unique Tips to Try at School

Let's go from ordinary to something unique this time and plan piercing care with everyday stuff.

Sticky Note Shields

If you've got a fresh ear piercing, grab a couple of sticky notes and cut them into small circles. Pop them inside your ears or on your earlobe to stop your piercings from rubbing against your earbuds or headphones during class.

It's a quick fix that helps protect your piercing from unnecessary irritation, and you can easily remove them without anyone noticing.

Lip Balm Barrier

Swipe some clear lip balm around the edges of your piercing before you head out. It creates a slick barrier that helps stop dirt and dust from sticking to your lip rings and bars.

This weird trick keeps your piercing clean, especially if you're in a dusty art class or running around between classes.

Minty Fresh Healing

Grab an extra toothbrush (soft bristles only) and gently brush around your piercings with some minty toothpaste. It feels refreshing and helps clean the area without needing water.

The toothpaste's minty tingle can soothe the skin around your piercing while also keeping it clean.

Instant Ramen Steam

While waiting for your instant ramen to cool down at lunch, hover your piercing over the steam for a minute. The warm, salty steam can give your piercing a mini spa treatment.

It's a sneaky way to cleanse and soothe your piercing during a busy school day.

Lollipop Swab Clean

Got a lollipop stick? Once you're done with your treat, use the stick as a makeshift swab to clean around your piercing.

It's a quirky way to keep your piercing clean, and it doubles as a secret snack-related hack.

Binder Clip Guard

Clip a small binder clip (the kind you use for paper) on the edge of your shirt collar or sleeve. If you've got a fresh piercing, it keeps your clothing from snagging on it.

It's weird, but it works, especially when you're rushing between classes and don't want to deal with a snagged piercing.

Prepare An Emergency Kit

Whether it's a rogue hoodie getting caught on your jewellery or an unexpected irritation, having a piercing emergency kit for school in your backpack can save the day.

Saline wipes are pre-soaked in a saltwater solution that's perfect for gently cleaning your piercing on the go. Whether you accidentally touch your piercing with dirty hands or feel some irritation, a quick wipe-down will keep things fresh and clean.

Look for individually wrapped wipes so they stay moist and sterile until you need them.

You never know when you might lose a ball, back, or even an entire piece of jewellery. Having a spare piece in your kit means you won't have to panic if something goes missing or gets bent out of shape.

Keep a simple, small piece of jewellery in your kit that's easy to insert, even if you're in a rush or not near a mirror.

A tiny mirror is a must for checking your piercing throughout the day. Whether you're swapping out jewellery, cleaning a hard-to-see spot, or just making sure everything's in place, a mirror helps you stay on top of things.

Choose a compact mirror that's small enough to fit in your pencil case or pocket but large enough to give you a good view of your piercing.

A small tube of unscented lip balm or Vaseline can be a lifesaver if your piercing feels dry or irritated. Just a dab can soothe the skin around your piercing and create a barrier against irritants.

Make sure to use a clean finger or cotton swab to apply it, especially if your piercing is still healing.

Cotton swabs are perfect for precise cleaning, especially if you're dealing with a small piercing like a nose or cartilage. Lollipop sticks, as mentioned earlier, are a quirky, quick-fix tool if you're caught without swabs.

Pack a few swabs in a small, resealable bag to keep them clean and ready to use.

If you need to take out your jewellery for sports or a class, a small ziplock bag is perfect for keeping it safe. This way, you won't lose any pieces, and it'll stay clean until you can put it back in.

Label the bag with a Sharpie so you know what's inside, especially if you have multiple piercings and different jewellery.

Band-Aids are a quick and easy solution if your piercing gets irritated or if you need to cover it up during gym class. They also work if you need to protect a piercing from getting bumped or snagged.

Choose fabric Band-Aids—they're more flexible and stay put better than plastic ones.

If you have a bit more space in your bag, a travel-sized bottle of saline solution is great for a more thorough cleaning. You can use it to soak a cotton swab or just flush out the piercing if you feel it's getting irritated.

Make sure the bottle is sealed tightly to avoid any leaks in your bag!

If your piercing is feeling sore or inflamed, having a small pack of pain relievers like ibuprofen can help reduce pain and swelling. This is especially useful if you're dealing with a newer piercing.

Always check with a parent or guardian before carrying medication to school, and make sure it's allowed.

Keeping hair away from your face can prevent it from getting tangled in a piercing, especially if you've got new earrings or a facial piercing.

Choose hair ties that won't snag or pull on your hair and clips that can hold your hair securely without slipping.
