Learn About Flat Back, Labret Piercing
The cool flat back studs, aka labret studs, are trending and have a charming allure for celebrities and influencers all over the world. They've got a post, a cute jewellery stud or a charm on one end, and a flat back that screws into place to keep them secure.
What makes flat back studs different from cartilage studs? Well, cartilage studs usually have a little ball on the back.
At Monster Piercing, we've got two excellent flatback stud options, both standard and reversible. They're versatile and perfect for jazzing up your ears.
When's the best time to wear flat back studs?
Flat back studs are necessary for that smooth, snug fit you crave.
When it comes to lip piercing jewellery, they're total game changers (that's why they're often called labret studs). Your jewellery needs to hug your lip to avoid any pesky rubbing against your teeth and gums, which could spell trouble for your smile.
But guess what? Flat back studs aren't just for lips anymore. They're gaining serious popularity in the premium cartilage piercing section, too. Think of delicate body piercings like the tragus. With that flat disc back, you get a discreet look that lets your jewellery shine from the front of your ear. So, if subtlety's your thing, flat disc backing is where it's at.
Why do we have different post lengths?
When it comes to getting the right size for your flatback studs, it's all about how your ear is shaped. We're looking at how thick your ear is and the angle of your piercing. Each flatback stud comes with both 6mm and 8mm posts, so you can customize your look to match your ear's unique look. If you need a longer post, don't worry! You can also choose a 10mm option. To give you an idea, it's about as tall as a single Skittle candy. So, feel free to try different sizes until you find the perfect fit for your ear.
External and Internal: What's the difference between flat back studs?
Let's talk threads, but not the online kind. When it comes to jewellery that screws together, like our flat back studs, you'll hear about "internal threading" and "external threading". It does sound fancy, right? But it's actually super important.
Internal threading is when the screw part is inside the post and outside the backing. External threading is the other way around, with the screw part outside the post and inside the backing.
Now, why does it matter? Well, internally threaded jewellery tends to be pricier, but it's top-notch. Why? Because making that internal threading is trickier. However, external threading is safer for your piercing and does not scrape against your skin.
While you can switch to externally threaded jewellery once your piercing's all healed up, during the healing process, stick with the internal stuff. And even after healing, remember that external threading could still mess with your piercing. So stick to internally threaded body jewellery; it's the way to go for healthy piercings.
How to put in flatback studs
Here's how to put in your flatback post:
- Push the flatback post through the back of your piercing.
- Grab the top part when you see the post coming out the front of your piercing.
- Put the pre-bent part into the opening of the post.
- Push both ends together with your finger.
- Give both ends a gentle tug to ensure it's friendly and secure.
Versatility
Labret studs are fantastic because they can go in almost any lip or ear piercing you can imagine! And the best part? They come in many different sizes, so you can find one that fits your piercing.
See, everyone's ears and lips are different. Some people have thick cartilage, while others have thin cartilage. That's why so many sizes are available – to match your unique style.
With flatbacks, you've got options down to the millimetre. Plus, they come in different materials, too. Do you have a steel allergy? No problem, just try titanium. Need something temporary? Bioplast might be your answer.
Basically, whatever your style or colour preference, there's a labret stud out there for you.
