Process to Wear Threadless Piercing Jewellery
Threadless jewellery is most popular among people who want a secure option that is also user-friendly and convenient. What sets it apart is its clever design – there are no threads involved, making it extremely safe to insert and less likely to accidentally come loose or be lost when used correctly.
Threadless pieces come with straight pins on the back. A skilled piercer will slightly bend this pin to ensure it locks securely into place when pushed into the threadless labret or barbell shaft. In our latest lines of jewellery and all future pieces, the pins are pre-bent for your convenience. However, checking the fit during each piercing session is always a good idea.
Numerous Gauge Sizes
One of the key features that makes threadless jewellery unique is its versatility in terms of gauge sizes. Unlike traditional threaded jewellery, where you are limited to using a specific size of jewellery with a matching post, threadless attachments are universally compatible. For example, a single threadless attachment can easily fit into an 18g, 16g, 14g, or 12g threadless labret or barbell.
Fitting by Pressing and Closing
The simple press-to-close and pull-to-open mechanism makes the process of changing jewellery easy for both clients and piercers. In many cases, it reduces the need for tools, which means less time spent cleaning up and a smaller impact on the environment – a win-win situation.
Improved and Efficient
Additional benefits of threadless jewellery include improved display and more efficient stock management. With almost every front piece fitting every back piece, you no longer have to worry about stocking items in multiple sizes.
However, as with any jewellery, it's important to ensure that the materials and polishing meet industry standards. Correct materials with poor polishing are just as problematic as excellent polishing on the wrong materials. To reduce the risk when selecting a jewellery provider, consider choosing a company that is a corporate member of organizations like the APP (Association of Professional Piercers).
How to Put On Threadless Jewellery
- "Threadless" refers to the unique method of connecting used in this type of jewellery. As it is in the name, there are no threads. Instead, the decorative head features a sturdy pin that extends to fit into the post. Your piercer will bend this pin, creating tension within the post that securely holds the jewellery together.
- The extent of the bend determines how tightly the decorative head sits within the post. One of the benefits of threadless jewellery is its built-in safety feature. If the jewellery catches on something, the connection should separate before causing harm to your skin.
- Since there are zero threads, no twisting or turning is required to remove the jewellery. Simply steady the post and gently pull the head away from it.
Piercing with Threadless Jewellery
Integrating threadless jewellery into your piercing process can work well with tool-based piercing, freehand piercing, or disposable piercing. The switch is straightforward.
Before fitting the jewellery, it's essential to check the pin's strength. This involves bending the pin slightly and testing its tension by inserting and removing it from the post.
Be cautious not to over-bend the pin. Bend it delicately, test it, and bend it further if necessary. You may find it useful to use small pliers or hemostats to support the pin during the bending process.
It's worth remembering that different brands use different pin materials, so it's crucial to become familiar with each one. It's vital to handle them with care at all times.
Can I Use Regular Jewellery with Threadless Posts?
It's crucial to understand that threadless jewellery is specifically designed to be compatible with threadless posts, and the same goes the other way around. You cannot simply take a standard earring stud post and attempt to insert it into a Press Fit tube. They won't fit or flex like the thin and moderately flexible pins found on threadless ends.
For optimal results, threadless posts are ideally suited for certain types of piercings, which include:
- Earlobes
- Ear cartilage piercings (such as helix, forward helix, flat, tragus, anti-tragus, and conch)
- Nostrils
- Lips
In piercing, there are often various paths to achieve your desired look or transition from external to threadless or internal to threadless. We typically recommend that clients stick with a method closest to what they are currently using. This might involve using a taper and then switching to the threadless version as they become more comfortable and confident.
